Datura drops the heavy metal shred on the spirit bar

Adding further to the multi-tonal music scene in the kootney area comes a band with the graceful aggressive orchestrate power of a tsunami.  Datura, the premier thrash/shred/melodic/death metal representation of the west kootneys punished the crowd at the  spirit bar last friday evening, may 01, 2009.

Opening with a weaving brilliant instrumental that contained the correct satisfying elements of melody and fine tuned shredability, then soaring through their set seamlessly with the control and poise of a band far surpassing their years.  The crowd could not have been more diverse, or more sincerely entertained and excited to be first hand witness to a music genre that gets little to no play regularly in an area with a small but secure heavy music contingent.

Particular highlights included a decapitated cover that was executed in a manor worthy of praise that would make any seasoned metal heads ears perk up in appreciation, not to mention an over excited fan jumping up on the stage later in the night to either a: offer the guys a beer, or b: was confused that this wasn’t hardcore and there are no mic hand offs.

Other than a lack of mosh pit etiquette and some never before seen metal dance moves, the reception in an otherwise electronically saturated venue was fantastic and the night a certifiable success.
